Cesar Kastro, a New York-based artist was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and raised in Miami, Florida.
Kastro's practice includes teaching community workshops on the historical use of artistic techniques in pre-Hispanic cultures. His personal work explores themes of decolonial remembrance, potential history, and blood memory.
Kastro seeks to forge techniques of remembering through Blood Memory, aiming to decolonize the past by blending ancestral reconnections with his creative hallucinations. His work is often inspired by objects violently separated from indigenous communities, which he reinterprets to preserve traditions and empower cultures.
Through painting and sculpture, Kastro incorporates mythological figures with anthropomorphic traits, using a recurring palette of red, black, and gold. These figures are set against minimalist, monochromatic depictions of the Andes, highlighting his signature themes of remembrance and transformation.
